Overview The prison program began as we endeavored to assist those who came off the streets into our recovery program (now called "Seven Bridges to Recovery" directed by Pastor Seven Wells). As these men and women began to turn their lives around they frequently had to deal with a variety of legal issues, such as probation violations, unresolved cases, fines and fees, etc. We walked with these sons and daughters of God as you would your own family. We visited them in jail, took their collect phone calls, went to court with them and prayed with them. We also met with the district attorneys, judges, public defenders, and social workers explaining the changes that had taken place in their lives, their desire for recovery, and our commitment to support them. We found "the system" was hungry for an alternative - something other than sending them back to jail.
Today we visit inmates in several county jails and state prisons, and have working relationships with judges and attorneys throughout the state.
Mission Our mission is to provide spiritual support and practical assistance to those who are dealing with legal system. We do not provide legal assistance, but rather assist both the individual defendant and the judicial system by offering productive alternatives, which may include safe housing, placement in recovery programs and life-building programs. Our goal with each individual is a lasting change with respect to criminal activity - as many judges have said, "I hope I never see you in my courtroom again."
Vision We seek to increase the quantity and quality of resources available to the legal system and individual defendants, prisoners, parolees and probationers, with the end result being reduced recidivism rates for those in our programs.
Need for Volunteers Courtroom Advocates - These individuals need to be available during the day to appear in court with individuals in our program. One, half-day training session is required.
